Cheap Chicken Recipes Biography

Cheap chicken was founded in 1975 with its first restaurant on Nostrand Avenue in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn. There is a dispute among the people involved in the business over who is the actual founder. Some claim that it is Abdul Karim while others say Taeb Zia was the early founder. Zia, an Afghan immigrant originally from Kabul, Afghanistan, is known by some as Zia Chicken or "Lau Chicken" and is regarded as the father of Kennedy Fried Chicken. He immigrated to the United States in 1972 and began working at a fast food restaurant by the name of Kansas Fried Chicken, which was owned by African-Americans at the time. Prior to that he was studying engineering in Baku, Azerbaijan. After spending about three years learning how to run a fast food business, he decided to open his own fried chicken restaurant. During the 1980s and 90s, many of the same restaurants have opened across New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Maryland and several other states. Some of these chicken outlets have even opened in the West Coast, in California. Their total number is roughly estimated to be approximately 1,000.For the most part the restaurants share the same concept, if not the same menus. In addition to fried chicken, they also offer fried fish, hot wings, short ribs, shrimp, burgers, pizza, beef patties on coco bread, all sorts of sandwiches and heroes, fries, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes, onion rings, sweet potato pies and a variety of flavors of ice cream for dessert. The restaurants are often located in dangerous areas of the most dangerous cities. For this reason, food at many of the inner-city restaurants is served from behind bulletproof glass, especially at night. Some, however, are found in safer suburbs and have added to their menus middle eastern dishes such as kebabs with rice, Chicken and food are quite often ordered a la carte. The menu provided with takeout and delivery orders does not include all the restaurant's offerings, which are usually posted on its walls with accompanying large color photographs of the actual items.

Due to the tendency of these restaurants to appear in inner-city locations, Kennedy and Crown are sometimes referred to as "ghetto chicken" by some of its customers.Despite this, most who have tasted the chicken speak positively about it.The restaurants are traditionally owned and operated mostly by Afghan-Americans but are not formally connected, although their concept, menus and prices are similar. This lack of centralized control has posed huge problems for Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) in New York. Since the 1990s, KFC has tried to enforce trademark rules against some of the Kennedy Fried Chicken restaurants, which often used the "KFC" abbreviation and have been known to decorate their restaurants in red and white colors, similar to that of KFC.
During the Depression, cooks used pork because it was then cheaper than chicken in many parts of the country, especially in those markets far from rural poultry farms. Sometimes cooks would grind the meat and use a drumstick-shaped mold to form the ground meat around a skewer. Grocery stores in both the Greater Cleveland area as well as those in the Pittsburgh metro area include wooden skewers with pork cubes specifically packaged as city chicken. In Ottawa, Canada, at least one variation involves skewers of three kinds of meat: pork, veal, and beef.Another Canadian variation, from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, was composed entirely of veal.
In many factory farms, chickens are routinely administered with the feed additive Roxarsone, a relatively benign organoarsenic compound which partially decomposes into inorganic arsenic compounds in the flesh of chickens, and in their feces, which are often used as a fertilizer. The compound is used to control stomach pathogens and promote growth. A Consumer Reports study in 2004 reported finding "no detectable arsenic in our samples of muscle" but found "A few of our chicken-liver samples has an amount that according to EPA standards could cause neurological problems in a child who ate 2 ounces of cooked liver per week or in an adult who ate 5.5 ounces per week." However, the amounts found in these livers averaged to 460 part per billion; an amount still less than the 2,000 parts per billion limit set by the FDA.In Asian countries it is possible to buy bones alone as they are very popular for making chicken soups, which are said to be healthy. In Australia the rib cages and backs of chickens after the other cuts have been removed are frequently sold cheaply in supermarket delicatessen sections as either "chicken frames" or "chicken carcasses" and are purchased for soup or stock purposes. Chicken bones are hazardous to health as they tend to break into sharp splinters when eaten, but they can be simmered with vegetables and herbs for hours or even days to make chicken stock.
